Key Principles of Interpretation Ethics
LX Translation Services adheres to the highest standards of professional conduct. Our interpreters follow a strict code of ethics to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and professionalism in every assignment.
1. Accuracy and Fidelity
- Render all messages in their entirety accurately, as faithfully as possible without addition, distortion, omission and embellishment of the meaning.
- The interpreted sentence should have the same meaning and effect as the original sentence.
2. Confidentiality
- Information learned about clients and cases should not be disclosed to anyone outside the interpretation assignment.
- Exceptions: If a person’s life or a child’s safety is in danger, the interpreter must report the situation to the Service Provider immediately.
3. Impartiality & Respect
- Respect for Persons: Respect all parties involved in the assignment.
- Impartiality: Interpreters strive to remain free of preference or bias. They are not advocates or opponents to any party, but neutral conduits for communication.
4. Professional Boundaries & Accountability
- Maintain Role Boundaries: Strive to perform within professional boundaries and refrain from personal involvement or invested emotions.
- Accountability: Interpreters are responsible for the quality of interpretation provided and accountable to all parties and organizations engaging in the service.
5. Professionalism & Competence
- Professionalism: Be professional, assertive, and ethical at all times, projecting a professional image in both verbal and non-verbal actions.
- Continued Competence: Commit to lifelong learning to keep pace with evolving languages, society, and services.
